How to Post
« on: 29 August, 2007, 10:40:38 pm »

When you are new to posting on a forum it can be a bit daunting, the main fear being the reply you might receive.   Misunderstandings often occur due to misreading the post and / or misreading the intentions of the author.   The use of smilies helps here.

When deciding to post a message on any of the discussion boards, just press Reply to open a reply window, write your post, preview to see how it reads then send.  If you are replying to a rather high-brow discussion, there are some tips that can help you create a more powerful post.

1. Consider the post you want to reply to (or begin) and open up a word document on your computer.

2. Copy the most recent discussion threads to a new document file and write a reply underneath the thread.

3. Take some time pondering what you want to say, but remember,  Its not like writing for Ostium.

4. Don't try to say too much in one post - too many questions can make it difficult for anyone to reply to.

5. Use spell check and read it back to your self to see if it sounds right.

6. Get whats on your mind onto the page. Give something of yourself and remember there is nothing wrong in having an original thought.

7. Finally, return to your discussion board of choice and paste your document into the reply window.

8. After a few hundred posts you will find that communicating ideas about osteopathy, and just about anything else for that matter, is so much easier than it used to be.  Regular posting on forums has been shown to make you more intelligent…and even sexy.  Wink
